Epictetus, Alan Turing, Marina Diamondis and the Soul

"Cynicism" and "Stoicism"as in the schools of philosophy. This is not a sub-forum to come and be an ass -- unless you want to throw plucked chickens at the Platonists, of course.

You've nailed 'em. Having real choices is a bad choice. Having no choice is the only choice you have. Liberty is captivity. Slavery is salvation. Suicide is immortality. Submission to the Other is Liberation from the Self. Identity is Alienation. Alientation from the Self is the supreme degree of Selfhood. Self-surrender is true selfhood.

Never has so much "religious freedom" been devoted to proving that on religious grounds freedom should not exist. Judaism does the same thing. "There is no freedom outside the Law." So does Islam. Life is gloriously rewarded by Eternal Life when you accept "martyrdom" and toss life away.
Utter subjection to One God is proof of being chosen. Submission is "Islam." A new Self in Christ.

How paradoxical. How mystical. Thank goodness for Epiphanies and Dogmas that make it all so clear!

It's sad to see in some corners of Hellenismos, precisely the same attempt to define who has to give up what sort of "falsehood" in order to be a "true" member of Hellenismos. Apparently one "conservative" thinks you can't get it until you give up. That individual should have stayed Catholic. It's so important to do a complete purge of this kind of cult-habit, otherwise people end up like the farmboy who left the farm without the farm ever leaving him.
